Prices in USD from each vendor’s own site, checked October 7, 2026. Searches: US Google searches a month for the product’s name, with the change over 12 months. Score out of 10, by one published formula; nobody pays to be listed.
An ebook cover is one image. A paperback needs a full wrap, back cover, spine and front, sized to your page count and paper, with bleed. Book Brush, BookCoverZone and KDP Cover Creator state that they make KDP print covers. Canva has book cover templates but not a spine calculated from your page count, and DIY Book Covers says it cannot make paperback wraps yet. Whatever you use, our free cover calculator gives the exact full-cover size and spine width for any trim and page count.
A stock photo licensed for social posts may not cover a product you sell. Canva, Book Brush, BookCoverZone and DIY Book Covers state their images and fonts can go on a book for sale; the product pages quote what each says. Covers made in KDP Cover Creator can be used only on KDP.
BookCoverZone sells premade covers, each sold once and customised with your title, from $99 for an ebook cover. Canva, Book Brush and DIY Book Covers are for making your own. Affinity, now free, and Photoshop are full design apps: the most control, but no book templates or spine tool, so you start from a blank page.
A new cover for an existing book? Our guide to building a print-ready cover for KDP covers bleed, safe area and the barcode, and the free ISBN barcode generator makes the barcode for the back.
Built for self-published authors, from facts anyone can check: each vendor’s own pages, read on October 7, 2026, and US Google search volumes (Google Ads data via DataForSEO). Nobody pays to be listed, and no score is adjusted by hand. We did not test the apps by writing a book in them; the score measures what they do for an author, what they cost and how widely they are used.
The score is the points earned divided by the points that could be checked, on a 10-point scale. A part with no data (no USD price, no search volume) is left out rather than guessed. How long a product has existed is not scored: few vendors state it. Review sites are not used: for most of these products the profiles rate the whole company or hold a handful of reviews.

KDP accepts it, but asks you to say whether the cover images were generated by AI when you publish.
