QR Code Generator for Books
How to Make a QR Code for Your Book
This generator turns any link into a QR code you can print on a book cover, an interior page or a bookmark. It runs entirely in your browser: nothing you type is sent anywhere, and there is no sign-up and no watermark.
- Paste the link. Use the full address of the page you want readers to land on: your newsletter sign-up, your author website, the review page for the book, a bonus chapter or a companion download.
- Add a logo or an icon. Upload your own logo with Custom Design, or pick one of the book-themed icons for the middle of the code.
- Choose a color. Any dark color on a light background scans. Keep strong contrast: a pale code on a pale page is a common reason a printed code fails.
- Pick the file type and download. SVG is a vector file that stays sharp at any size, so it is the best choice for print. PNG and JPG work for ebooks, websites and social posts.
Where to Put a QR Code in a Book
- Back matter. A code on the last page, next to a line such as «Get the next chapter free», catches readers at the moment they finish the book.
- Author page. Link to your website or newsletter so print readers can follow you without typing an address.
- Inside a nonfiction or activity book. Point to worksheets, printable pages, answer keys, audio or video that would not fit on paper.
- Back cover. Possible, but keep it away from the barcode area. On KDP paperbacks the ISBN barcode sits in the bottom corner of the back cover nearest the spine, and a QR code does not replace it.
- Bookmarks, flyers and event tables. The same file works on anything you print for signings and markets.
Tips for a QR Code That Scans in Print
- Leave a quiet zone. Keep a clear margin of plain background around the code; text or artwork touching its edge makes it harder to read.
- Use a short link. The longer the address, the more squares the code needs, and a dense code needs to be printed larger to scan reliably.
- Print a proof and scan it. Order a proof copy or print the page at its real size and test it with two or three phones before you publish.
- Link to a page you control. A code printed in a book cannot be changed later, but the page it points to can. Sending readers to your own site means you can update the offer without reprinting.
- Say what it is for. A code with no caption rarely gets scanned. One short line of text next to it tells readers why they should.
QR Code FAQ
Is this QR code generator free?
Yes. There is no account, no limit on the number of codes and no watermark, and the codes do not expire, because they encode your link directly rather than passing through a redirect service.
Can I put a QR code inside a KDP book?
Yes, as long as it is part of your interior or cover file like any other image. Place it at a size that scans on paper and check it in your printed proof.
Which file type should I download?
SVG for print, because it can be scaled without losing sharpness. PNG for ebooks and the web. JPG if the program you use does not accept the other two.
Does a QR code replace the ISBN barcode?
No. The ISBN barcode is what retailers scan at the till. If you need one for your own cover, the ISBN barcode generator creates it, and the KDP cover size calculator gives you the cover dimensions to place both.
